Staff Recommendations Blog:
Come blog with us! Visit our Adult Services Staff Recommendation Blog to see what OPL staff members have been reading lately. Check out staff member-penned reviews and leave comments of your own.

Bookletters:
Have personalized lists of books, audios, movies, and music sent right to your Inbox with Bookletters, OPL’s hot new readers’ advisory resource. Bookletters also allows you to stay up to date on bestseller lists, award winners and “Books on the Air” (those recently seen on television or heard on the radio). Sign up today. It’s free.

Books & Authors (MeL):
Enhance your reading experience with the Books & Authors database. Learn more about the book you’re currently reading and find biographical tidbits about your favorite authors. Additionally, be sure to take advantage of the “Read-Alike Wizard.”

Stop By the Library—And Ask A Librarian:
Stop by the Reference Desk and ask the librarian on duty what they could recommend for you. Find it with MeLCat
Don’t see the item you’re looking for in eLibrary? There’s still a good chance you’ll be able to get it without purchasing it from the bookstore.

OPL Patrons now have access to the Michigan eLibrary Catalog, or MeLCat (for short). MeLCat is a statewide interloan system that allows participating Michigan libraries to share many of the items in their catalogs—including books, and sometimes audio books, DVDs and CDs—with other participating libraries, thus vastly increasing the variety of items available to those libraries’ patrons. This means that if you don’t find what you need in OPL’s shared catalog, there’s a good chance you can find it through MeLCat.

To start using MeLCat, simply click on the green and purple MeLCat logo, located underneath the eLibrary search area on OPL’s catalog website page. From there, you can search in a variety of ways, including Author, Title, Subject, or Series. Once you have located what you’re looking for, select the “Get This For Me” option. You will then be asked to select your home library from a drop down menu. You will be asked to type in your name (first and last) and your home library card number. Then select the “submit” option. The item you requested will then be sent to you for pickup at your home library. As with holds placed through eLibrary, you will be contacted when the item is available.

Patrons can also access their own information, such as holds lists and status of requests, by selecting the MyMeL menu option, choosing their home library from the list provided, and entering their personal information (name and library card number).

Outreach Services
Did you know the Oxford Public Library provides Outreach Services to qualifying homebound patrons?  If you or someone you know is unable to physically come to the library to retrieve materials, library staff is available to deliver. Currently many Oxford residents receive library materials delivered to their home to enjoy on a regular basis.  Registration is easy and may be done by phone or in person.  Specific items may be requested for delivery at any time and/or librarians may make selections based on an individual patron’s interests.  Call today to speak with Outreach Services Facilitator: Cristan @ phone # (248)628-3034.

Enjoy the tranquil sounds of classical guitar, performed by James Bach and Dana Bradshaw, both of Lapeer. The duo will be playing timeless pieces from the Classical, Romantic, and Baroque periods. Both performers are students in U of M Flint’s music program. Please join us in welcoming them to the Gardenside Stage!
